» mplayer-1.0rc2-5.pm.0

A new package of mplayer is available on Packman, which is built (statically) against the latest libdvdread and libdvdnav forks of the MPlayer project. It also includes a bugfix for CPU capability detection on AMD64. Please test, especially the DVD navigation and/or if you have an x86_64 host and reports issues or success - thanks :)

FYI the new libdvdread and libdvdnav are already available in Factory (shared libraries only)

It works, but .rmvb (RV40) files still won't play on my x86_64 system using mplayer. What exactly was the x86_64 detection supposed to fix? I'm not exactly sure what I am supposed to be looking for.

todd: the problem is that Real only ships RealPlayer for x86 (32bit) and not for x86_64 (64bit). Hence .rmvb support doesn't work because mplayer can't use the 32bit codec from RealPlayer.

There is a 64bit build of that codec in in here (tarball, 225kb).
Copy the drvc.so file that's in the archive to /usr/lib64/RealPlayer10/codecs

Then it'll work. Unfortunately, because of the very restrictive redistribution policy of Real, we cannot package it to make it work out of the box.

Do you know the status of mplayer being able to play Bluray discs?
